The IB method speaks to how we are trying to make a change in how we teach. Less direct instruction and more problem based learning. Another feature of IB is getting kids engaged in learning by letting them ask the questions and find the answers. This video is a great example of the finished projects of students at the end of their 10th grade year. I hope that Liz gets a chance to see the video given that she leads the 8th grade seminar projects at SHA. This is the end product that she has been looking for from the kids. Maybe she could share it with this year's 8th graders.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"74544706","body":"Janet, I was immediately struck by how the learning was relevant to the students -- they had a "need to know" that was driven by their own lives and interests. There is nothing more powerful than this and a hallmark of connected learning.

\nYou make the point that we can engage students by "letting them ask the questions and the find the answers." I am interested in how we can help our students be better at asking probing questions. What are your thoughts on this?
\n
\nThis project-based learning experience reminds me of CAPSTONE projects that are part of many schools' programs as an 8th or 12th grade culmination of studies, interests and research skills.

\nI sent a message to Liz with this link, by the way:)

\nThank you for sharing this very interesting clip that can support connected learning, project-based learning and deep learning in general!","dateCreated":"1409146271","smartDate":"Aug 27, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"Mrs_Blattner","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Mrs_Blattner","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1441400945\/Mrs_Blattner-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"74626172","body":"Janet!
